First settled as part of Salem, MA in 1629 and incorporated one year later, Marblehead started out as a fishing village and by the late 1800's, the magnificent harbor enticed yachting enthusiast from all over. Home to General John Glover, Elbgridge Gerry and other notable residents. Over the centuries, Marblehead has housed such industries as boat building (home of the second oldest boatyard in America), shoe making, fishing, Burgess' Aeroplane company and are also known as the Birthplace of the American Navy and Marine Aviation.
